  12. Stella by Starlight by Sharon Draper. It's been suggested as contender for the 2016 Newbery. I checked it out from the library, but thought it was so well written and enjoyed the story so much that I went and bought a copy for my school library. It's historical fiction and my 3rd graders have been studying that genre. I think several of my 5th graders will enjoy it too.
